Stop Pissing Nurses Off! A Special Nurses Week Episode
Tuesday May 07, 2019
Tuesday May 07, 2019
Nurses… we’re that one group of people you don’t want to piss off… cuz we can save your life! But, lately people keep doing it! We saw it happen several years ago with Joy Behar saying "Nurses didn’t wear stethoscope!"Maureen Walsch republican state senator of Washington state saying "Nurses spend most of their time playing cards!" and now the Guinness book of world records in London is denying the fastest woman to run the London marathon in a nurses uniform the world’s record because she wore trousers?
In this special "Nurses Week" episode María Verónica Sánchez joinsd us to discuss why people should stop pissing nurses off in the media, and are nursing schools being unscrupulous by just letting anyone in for a profit? Are they really preparing nurses to be at the bedside and save lives? Why are so many nursing students having a hard time passing the NCLEX exams? And how properly arching your eye brows may keep students from complaining about you and out of the Dean's office! Maria Veronica Sanchez won the Excellent in teaching award in 2018, she is a New York Advanced practice RN with 2 decades of clinical experience in various healthcare settings with emphasis on education, healthcare quality and patient safety. follow Veronica on twitter @laveronurse

What Would You Do If E.Coli Threatened Your Colon?
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
Tuesday Apr 23, 2019
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that ground beef is the origin of a multi-state E. coli outbreak which started in March 28, 2019 and has so far sickened 109 people in six states, including 17 hospitalizations. E. Coli, is a Gram-negative, facultative anaerobic, rod-shaped, coliform bacterium causing more drama than the House Wives on BRAVO! These facultative anaerobes constitute about 0.1% of gut microbiota and fecal–oral transmission is the major route through which pathogenic strains of the bacterium cause disease.
Our guest Cynthia Thurlow tells her heroining tale of being super healthy one day, to being hospitalized and having a surgeon threaten to remove her colon the next! Could E. Coli be the culprit? This could happen to you so you better listen! Cynthia is a Western medicine trained NP, TEDx speaker x 2, functional nutritionist and passionately believes that the inherent power of food and nutrition can be your greatest asset to your health and wellness journey. She lives in Washington, DC with her husband, boys and two crazy doodles! https://chtwellness.com

Predatory Conferences : The Dark Side Of Fake Conferences And Publishing
Monday Apr 15, 2019
Monday Apr 15, 2019
Predatory conferences or predatory meetings are meetings set up to appear as legitimate scientific conferences but which are exploitative as they do not provide proper editorial control over presentations, and advertising can include claims of involvement of prominent academics who are, in fact, uninvolved. They are an expansion of the predatory open access publishing business model, which involves the creation of academic publications built around an exploitative business model that generally involves charging publication fees to authors without providing the editorial and publishing services associated with legitimate journals. In this episode we talk to Jeffrey Beall author of "The Bealls List" a compilation of predatory conferences and publishers. Host Ersilia Pompilio shares her nutty hair-brained tale of attending a "Predatory Conference: San Diego Nursing Leadership 2018" under cover for a journalistic assignment.
Our guest Jeffrey Beall worked for 28 years as an academic librarian and retired in 2018. Over the course of his career, his research interests included bibliographic database quality and scholarly publishing. He coined the term predatory publisher in 2010, alerting researchers in all fields to the problem of counterfeit, scholarly open-access journals and the threat they pose to scientific integrity. When nurse Charlie Cullen was arrested in 2003, journalists were quick to dub him "The Angel of Death." But Cullen was neither a mercy killer nor a simple monster. He was a son, a husband, a father, a best friend, and a valued caregiver. He was also implicated in the deaths of as many as 400 people, and may be the most prolific serial killer in American history.Cullen's career in the world's most trusted profession spanned sixteen years, across nine hospitals.
In this episode we talk to New York Times Best selling author Charles Graeber about why he chose to write The Good Nurse, his 6 year long research into the case, and how he got to talk to Charles Cullen. We also discus similar "Angel Of Death" true crime scenarios, how 'The Good Nurse,' may affect medical malpractice cases, and much more! We chat about about parenting, childporn on Youtube, and share lot's of "Twilight Zone" type stories! You'll want to listen to this episode till the end.. there is definitely a plot twist!
