Competitive Eating...A Gastroenterologists' Nightmare!
Monday Jan 20, 2020
Monday Jan 20, 2020
Competitive Eating… Yes, it’s actually a sport! You may have even caught a glimpse of real human beings devouring countless hot dogs on ESPN at the Nathan’s Hot Dog eating contest on Coney Island and thought “Those guys are nuts!”
People in these competitions compete against each other, eating large quantities of food, ingesting over 20,000 calories! There’s also a national organization that sponsors these ‘athletes!’ It’s a Gastroenterologists' nightmare!
Alex ‘Moose’ Perez is a competitive eater ranked 50th in the world. On this episode “Moose” talks about his journey into competitive eating that started in childhood when he ate everything in the house! He tells us how he trains for his events and explains his techniques and ‘strategy’ and how like a ‘scientist’ he figured out the most efficient and quickest way to debone a chicken wing! He’ll also share his tale of how he got so sick after eating several slices of ghost pepper pizza, he ended up coughing up blood! We also talk about the effects that competitive eating has on the body, specifically the brain and the gut.
Alex ‘Moose’ Perez was born in Chicago and later moved to Texas. He joined the Marine Corps after high school. Inspiration hit him hard as he saw Joey Chestnut vs. Kobiyashi (Competitive Eating World Champions) in 2006 compete against each other. His destiny took a turn after meeting Adam from the show ‘Man vs. Food,’ which launched him into signing up for his first food competition. 2 years into his career as an amateur eater, he branded himself as ‘Moose’ which was a name given to him at birth by the Nurses who take care of him as a baby in Chicago. After eating 112 Hooter chicken Wings, he was invited to join Major League Eating, a professional organization that sponsors eating contests. You can follow ‘Moose’ on Instagram and Twitter @Alesmooseperez....

Is It Really Just A Coincidence?: Halloween Series
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
Wednesday Oct 30, 2019
We’ve all had something strange happen to us that just doesn’t make sense – something or someone just seems to fall into our laps, and no matter how we try to make sense of it, nothing can explain it except coincidence. Coincidences can help you with decision making, psychological changes, relationships, health questions, creativity, money problems, job issues and spiritual development. Dr. Bernard Beitman joins us to talk about his book "Connecting With Coincidence." He shares his wisdom and research. In his book, you will learn how to increase their frequency and to explain them.
Ask yourself - Are coincidences “ways in which God remains anonymous”? Are they “just probability”? What part do I play in coincidence creation? Some coincidences tell us that we have untapped abilities like telepathy and human GPS—the ability to find people, ideas and things we need without knowing how we got there. This is definitely an intriguing episode you won't want to miss...It just might change your life! Dr. Beitman is the first psychiatrist since Carl Jung to attempt to systematize the study of coincidences. He is a Visiting Professor at the University of Virginia and former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He attended Yale Medical School and completed a psychiatric residency at Stanford. Dr. Beitman has received two national awards for his psychotherapy training program and is internationally known for his research into the relationship between chest pain and panic disorder. In addition, he has edited two issues of Psychiatric Annals that focus on coincidences, and is the founder of Coincidence Studies. https://coincider.com/about-dr-beitman/

Do deceased beings feel trauma after they have passed on? Do the dead grieve? Do they experience loss? Emotionally suffer or dwell on unfinished business? Does how they died have any influence on them post death? And, do they have and/or should they be afforded agency as autonomous life forms?
Paula Fenn, a psychotherapist and medium who engages therapeutically with the dead argues that deceased human beings can continue to suffer, feel pain, languish over lost relationships and experience complicated grief reactions. That these "Ghosts on the Couch" enter her consulting room attached to their human hosts and engage in a unique therapeutic protocol which assists them to metabolize, process and therapeutically work through the myriad of reasons which kept them Earthbound and thwarted their natural journeys to the light of the Spirit Realms. Not only their dead bodies remained in the hospital beds, mangled cars and battlegrounds, but also their souls. Human corpses rotting into the earth whilst their human consciousness remained alive and autonomous within facilitative locations and active hosts. Allowing the souls of the dead to live on, carrying forward complex layers of psycho-emotional and physical anguish. The dead can think and rationalize, can re-calibrate and re-frame as well as any desiring, fee-paying psychotherapy patient. They can re-process memories, digest emotions, dis-invest from negative events and be facilitated to reach new states of equilibrium. The dead can heal.
We continue our Halloween series with guest Paula Fenn Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist based in the UK. She's an accredited Psychotherapist in private practice and a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. She is also a Spirit Release Practitioner and assists clients affected by spirit intrusion. Professional Memberships include the Society for Psychical Research and the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation.
