Do deceased beings feel trauma after they have passed on? Do the dead grieve? Do they experience loss? Emotionally suffer or dwell on unfinished business? Does how they died have any influence on them post death? And, do they have and/or should they be afforded agency as autonomous life forms?
Paula Fenn, a psychotherapist and medium who engages therapeutically with the dead argues that deceased human beings can continue to suffer, feel pain, languish over lost relationships and experience complicated grief reactions. That these "Ghosts on the Couch" enter her consulting room attached to their human hosts and engage in a unique therapeutic protocol which assists them to metabolize, process and therapeutically work through the myriad of reasons which kept them Earthbound and thwarted their natural journeys to the light of the Spirit Realms. Not only their dead bodies remained in the hospital beds, mangled cars and battlegrounds, but also their souls. Human corpses rotting into the earth whilst their human consciousness remained alive and autonomous within facilitative locations and active hosts. Allowing the souls of the dead to live on, carrying forward complex layers of psycho-emotional and physical anguish. The dead can think and rationalize, can re-calibrate and re-frame as well as any desiring, fee-paying psychotherapy patient. They can re-process memories, digest emotions, dis-invest from negative events and be facilitated to reach new states of equilibrium. The dead can heal.
